THE ART OF NOSFERATU IN TUCSON, ARIZONA

First off, even though I am the Clan Elder for Tucson, its not my native city. I hail from the east coast. I arrived in Tucson just a couple of years ago, to find that I was the only one of my clan in the city. Although I did hear rumors of a powerful Nosferatu that was here before me.

Now unlike cities of the east coast and most of the European cities, Tucson doesn't have a tunnel system that is helpful for moving through, unless your a frog. Most of this cities sewer pipes about only a couple feet in diameter. Now there are some larger sections that a person can walk upright in, but they are mainly in the central part of the city.

And of course Tucson is a city where the word basement is unknown to all but a few. So when I first got here, I had to do some looking around for a suitable haven.

So, other than real estate, Tucson is a fun city for a Nosferatu. There are lots of dark alleyways for us to slink through, plenty of wildlife both domestic an feral to talk to. Tucson doesn't have a real rat population like New York, but we have a rather large cat an dog community. Plus coyote's wander into the city from time to time. Just need to make sure that its not a Garou in lupus form.

You have to be smarter than the average kindred in this city to get any useful information. You just can't put your ear to a wall an hear what is being said on the other side. You have to interact with this society.

Also since coming to this city, I've taken up fishing. I've found that with the right lure the catch will come to me. I don't have to go out an kick over trashcans for information, most of it is delivered to me, sometimes even by those that I want it on.

Being multi-lingual in this city is also a big help(sadly I'm not) because we have a diverse mortal population. Its rather hard to get the hispanics to spill the beans about something when they keep saying "No Habla engles." Thats when I have to use my interpreter. "Que Habla Beretta 9mm?" That usually works.

I've also developed a taste for ethnic foods. I've had my share of Japanese an Chinese while back in the D.C. area. But never really got a decent mexican meal. An Korean, I had never had Korean before coming to Tucson. Its an acquired taste, but can be a bit spicy.

Nosferatu spawning pools are another big problem here. With so little rain falling in Tucson, this city is designed to maximize its drainage. An digging in the dirt with anything smaller than a jackhammer, you might as well forget about it.(Tucson si ts on a substance called Caliche, which is probably spanish for Concrete.) So a spawning pool will need to more than likely be above ground. But the variety of critter that you can get to drink from it, or simply throw in is vast.

Daylight hours can be a bitch in this city. During the summer months, the sun sets around 7pm, but its still light enough to see until after 8pm. And the damn sun rises at like 5am. Theres nothing to block its light getting to the city.

But the winter months can be wonderful. The sun sets early, an raises late. An even though we aren't effected by cold, our winter nights don't get really cold until mid-winter, so there are people out late into the night.

I've come to like Tucson, an am starting to think of it as home. There is just enough paranoia in our kindred community to keep a good Nosferatu on their toes. But the rewards are certainly worth the efforts.
