Peek-a-boo! I See You!!!

New Auspex Rules-

Ok, in the Old Rules, Aupex would work like any other Discipline related challenge.. "I bid X-traits, I bid X-traits and call for a test" etc..etc..

Now the "new Old Pueblo LARP Rules" for Auspex are abit different, but actually easier to use.

Aura Perception is mainly what we're talking about here, not really Heightened Senses, Spirit Touch, etc.

Aura Perception, is gonna let you see if someone is lying, see if they've committed diablorie recently, or even get an idea what their Nature is. Under the "new" OPL rules, it's basically # of traits vs. # of traits, quick test, wham-bamm, you're done. Here's the skinny:

50% or more of opponent's total Mental traits-
If you bid at least 50% of opponent's total Mental Traits (meaning you have 4+ traits but less than 8 and they have 8 traits), you will win the "test" only on a "win".

Greater than opponent's total Mental Traits-
If you bid more Mental Traits, than opponent has total Mental Traits, you win "tests" on both "wins and ties".

Less than 50% of opponent's total Mental Traits-
If you bid less traits than 50% of opponent's total, traits you lose the "test".

Quick Example:

Jim is playing Gary Gangrel, and Jane is playing Tina Toreador [Must be Tanya Toreador's childe. Tanya has been a fixture of our rules examples for so long, I think she's ended up being an elder. -- Ed.] Tina heard some juicy rumours about another person, and wants to verify them through Gary, who happens to be blood-bound to the person in question.

Tina starts talking to Gary, and eventually asks him the question she wants an answer to, and wants to be sure he's telling her the truth. Tina uses Aura Percpetion to watch the shade of a Gary's aura, and see if it changes any, which it usually does if someone is lying.

Out of character, Jane tells Jim, she's doing an "Aura Perception challange" on Jim to see if his character is lying or telling her the correct answer. They both look at their character-sheets. Jane says she's bidding 8 traits that are applicable to the challenge. Since Jim is the defender, he doesn't have to state how many Mental Traits he has applicable, but looking at his character-sheet, he sees he only has 5 traits to use. The test is made, Jane throws "scissors" as does Jim. Because Jane has more traits to bid than Jim has total, she wins ties, and finds out that Gary is attempting to lie to Tina about the question. If she had only bid 4 traits, Jim would have won the tie, and if she had bid 2 traits, she would have automatically lost the test.

As you can see, this process is a bit easier than the previous rules, and requires players to be truthful with one another. If you aren't sure about how this will work, get a Story-Teller to help you out. Also, if this system is abused (players quoting incorrect traits, etc.) we will require that an ST be present when any Aura Perception test is made. We would also like some feedback as to how this works, "in game", from players, so that we know how effective it is.
                                Thanks!
