Ghouls

Stuff you need to know

Ghouls are a must for any up and coming Vampire. But that do you get for your one point ghoul? Good question. Hopefully this will help you get a better grasp on what you get and what you can do with them. For one point, you get a ghoul that has a break down in Attributes of 6/4/2, 3 Humanity Traits, 5 Abilities, one Influence, and either a basic Physical Discipline (Celerity, Potence, or Fortitude) from it's Regnant's clan, or, in the case the Regnant is of one of those few without a physical discipline s, then the ghoul will get the merit of Learn Other Discipline and one additional XP. You can spend extra XP for you ghoul at any time, and each time your ghoul is played in a game it will earn either one or two points (depending on the game they appear ed at), for further growth. The other advantage to ghouls is they purchase influences at half price. There are a couple of disadvantages to this. The ghoul must have an ability appropriate to the influence (Bureaucracy for Bureaucracy and Transportatio n, Computer for Computer, Finance for Finance and Industry, Investigation for Media, Police and University, Leadership for Military, Medicine for Health, Occult for Church and Occult, Performance for High Society, Streetwise for Underworld and Street, and Subterfuge for Politics) in order to purchase an influence. The second disadvantage is that ghouls are easy targets for hunters and rivals who would try to take over or eliminate your influences. Ghouls are not as resistant to damage as vampires are, a nd can be killed with a simple knife in the back or shot to the head, and lose of a ghoul is lose of the points spent on it. You do not get to define your ghoul the instant you purchase it. Ghouls have to be recruited, and searching for just the right ghoul takes time. On the month of purchase of the ghoul, you can determine the Ghoul's Primary Attribute, and either one Abilit y or their Influence. For each additional month spent 'interviewing' prospects, then one additional ability or influence can be decided (Thus it would take a six-month search to be able to fully flesh out new ghoul). Negative traits, flaws, merits, etc. along with any unassigned abilities or influences will be determined by the Storytellers. If you are looking for a ghoul with a specific merit or numina then those will take an additional number of months equal to twice the advantage's point value, and the Storyteller will still deiced what negative traits or flaws the ghoul suffers from to balance the point value. Ghouls without Learn Other Discipline Merit cannot learn any discipline outside the regnant's clan. Note: These rules to not apply to ghouls specifically created to be played by one player. Why the difference? Because the PC Ghoul can have their own agendas, can interact separately with other Vampires from their Regent, and will fill out their own event sheets with their own downtime activities. The 'NPC' Ghoul is little more then an automation for their Regnant, and giving a player two full characters to play, both aiming for the same, mutua l goals, would be grossly unfair. These rules also do not apply to animal ghouls. For animal ghouls, they have 20 points to be distributed among their Attributes and Abilities (a minimum of one in each area and animal ghouls cannot purchase influences). They start out with an instinct rating of 8 (these are the number of social traits used in a test to order your Ghoul). Instincts may be lowered by 1 for two points spent. Your points may be distributed among more then one animal, but each one will sta rt with an instinct rating of 8. Each animal will have a basic physical discipline from the Regent's clan. As above, if the clan does not have a physical, then the animal will get the Merit Learn Other Discipline and one additional point. Also, in orde r to control an animal ghoul, the Regent must have the ability of Animal Ken. All animal ghouls start out with the negative mental trait of Violent and the only derangement an animal can have is Crimson Rage.
